Two Lighting Relays Controller, Operator Manual NEXT

The Two Lighting Relays controller comes with a complete instruction manual. It shows how to fully utilize the 2LR to add action lighting for every train layout from a few lights in structures to an extensive prototypical layout with hundreds of lights.

Even if your wiring experience is limited, it will show you how to connect lights to 2LR relays, connect lights to combinations of relays, and how to develop "Matrix" lighting for large train layouts with extensive lighting.

The 2LR Operator Manual starts with simple explanations of the Controller and progresses to advanced concepts and capabilities:

  1. Quick Start Demonstration
  2. Board Power
  3. Outside Rail Inputs
  4. Features and Jumper Selection
  5. The 2LR Relays
  6. Controlling Layout Lighting
  7. Matrix Lighting
  8. Controller Compatibility
  9. Layout Lighting Examples
  10. Synchronizing Layout Lighting with Room Lighting

The 2LR manual includes separate drawings showing complete jumpering and wiring for layout lighting examples.

AC Lighting - Train Yard Extension AC Lighting - Weekday Extension
Two 2LR Day/Night Matrix Lighting Five 2LR Day-Part Weekday Lighting

"Quick Start Demonstration" is a good way to get started and gain confidence with connecting the 2LR. Simple wiring for lights to 2LR relay contacts and jumpering for four feature sets are shown.

"Board Power" shows different way to supply Controller power.

"Outside Rail Inputs" can be connected to isolated outside track rail blocks, electrical switches, relay terminals, or can be wired for continuous relay cycling.

Using a Dedicated Transformer for Controller Inputs
Activating Controller Inputs with Electrical Switches
Using Relay Contacts to Activate Controller Inputs
"Combining" Track Blocks for Controller Inputs

"Features and Jumper Selection" describes 2LR's timing and counting features and eight "feature sets."

ON/OFF Timing Feature
ONE-TIME-ON Feature

Jumpers for Feature and Timing Selection
Feature Set Descriptions

"The 2LR Relays" are connected for operating layout lighting or trackside accessories.

The 2LR can be used for lighting actions ranging from turning one light on and off to using just a few controllers to operate hundreds of lights with different lighting actions. Section Controlling Layout Lighting develops lighting concepts with simple step-by-step descriptions.

Layout Lights and Wiring
Lighting Transformers
Wiring Lights to Transformers
Wiring Relays to Operate Lighting
A Light Can Be Turned OFF or ON when a Relay Is ON
A Relay Is Used to Select a Light to Be ON
Light OFF or ON and "Bright" or "Dim"
Light ON when Parallel Relay Contacts are Closed
Light ON when Series Relay Contacts Are Closed
Series Relay Wiring Can Have "Side Affects"

A large number of lighting actions can be created with a small number of 2LRs using the described "Matrix Lighting" technique.

DC Power for Layout Lighting
A Diode Is Like a One-Way Valve
A Diode Blocks Unintended Side-Affects
Combining Lighting Actions
AC or Matrix Lighting?

The 2LR is compatible with other Three-Rail Innovations' controllers, as discussed in manual section "Controller Compatibility ."

Detailed layout lighting examples are developed in manual section "Layout Lighting Examples."

Section "Synchronizing Layout Lighting with Room Lighting" shows how 2LR controlled layout lighting can be synchronized with train room lighting and how 2LRs can be used to control low-voltage train room lighting.
