The Double Yard Manager layout idea has a two-track train yard at each end of a length of track.

A non-derailing track switch creates each yard. The switch is not controlled.

A train waits in each yard. A train traverses the track, entering the unoccupied yard track. The waiting train leaves the yard and traverses the track to the other yard, where the action is repeated.

An E-Unit Cycler in Yard Manager mode controls each train yard.

A little operational variety can be added by adding an EUC for one or more station stops. The track length between the train yards can incorporate a loop or switchback tracks.
